Overview
Workplace safety in Kosovo has come under intense scrutiny following a series of fatal accidents in 2026. In August, the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) faced criticism after at least four workers died in recent months, including a fatality involving 6 kV electrical cables. Jusuf Azemi, head of the Kosovo Independent Private Sector Union (SPSPK), reported that 20 workers had died on the job so far in 2026, with 11 deaths occurring in the construction sector. Azemi attributed the majority of these cases to human error and criticized company owners for failing to prioritize safety, while also expressing concern regarding the role of government institutions and the judicial handling of such cases.
