World College Radio Day celebrations
Overview
The 16th annual World College Radio Day (WCRD) is scheduled to feature a 26-hour global marathon broadcast via Live365. Under the theme “HOPE — Always In The Air!”, the event is designed to showcase student-run broadcasting as a training ground for journalists and musicians. The marathon is set to begin on October 1 at 8 PM EST, originating from the College of the Marshall Islands and rotating coverage through stations in the Pacific, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
In addition to the global broadcast, the University of Fiji’s campus station, Vox Populi, has announced its own 72-hour live radio marathon. This specific event aims to demonstrate the reliability of radio communication during failures of other modes.
Alongside these celebrations, The College Radio Society has introduced a research project titled “The History of College Radio in 100 Objects.” This initiative invites the community to contribute artifacts, such as historic broadcast equipment and handwritten logbooks, to document the heritage of student media.
