World Investment Forum 2026 in Doha
Overview
The ninth edition of the World Investment Forum (WIF2026) has opened in Doha, Qatar, in partnership with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Under the theme ‘Investing in the Future,’ the three-day event has brought together over 5,000 participants, including prime ministers from Qatar, Lesotho, Libya, and Madagascar, as well as approximately 50 government ministers and 406 speakers.
The forum features 108 sessions addressing critical global shifts, including artificial intelligence, sustainable finance, climate change, supply chains, and energy security. For the first time, a dedicated track focuses on AI infrastructure and opportunities for developing economies. Discussions aim to address economic uncertainty and the necessity of redirecting capital flows toward developing economies, particularly following UNCTAD reports indicating a decline in new cross-border investment projects and a 25% drop in essential sector investments in developing nations. Data shows that over 80% of global foreign direct investment was concentrated in just 20 economies during 2025.
On the sidelines of the event, various bilateral engagements have taken place. Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Mohamed Farid, met with the Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, to discuss Qatari investment in Egypt’s manufacturing and logistics sectors. Additionally, Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), is participating to showcase Algeria’s investment attractiveness and explore new international cooperation prospects.
