World Space Week 2026 observances

Overview

World Space Week 2026 commenced on October 4, running through October 10 under the theme ‘Rocket Revolution’. This United Nations-declared initiative celebrates the rapid transformation of space access driven by reusable rockets, commercial providers, universities, and new national actors. The dates commemorate the 1957 launch of Sputnik 1 and the 1967 Outer Space Treaty.

Global observances include diverse educational and scientific activities. In Oklahoma, NASA experts are engaging more than 1,000 students in STEM activities, while the UNIVERSUM museum in Mexico City is hosting workshops and solar observations. In Spain, Seville is hosting over 40 activities to highlight its growing aerospace industry, which serves as a key economic driver for the region.

Media programming continues as planned, with Discovery Channel and Odisea broadcasting special content regarding space history and exploration. Other public engagement efforts include community stargazing challenges using smart telescopes and curated film lists designed to connect the public with space science.
