Wrestling community support for Tanea Brooks
Overview
Following the diagnosis of terminal ALS for professional wrestler Tanea Brooks, known as Rebel, the wrestling community has initiated various fundraising and awareness efforts. DREAM Pro Wrestling raised over $7,000 through a benefit event in late July.
On September 9, 2026, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) held a special edition of Dynamite titled ‘AEW: Rebel Heart’ at the Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia. The broadcast was dedicated to Brooks and aimed to raise awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in partnership with organizations such as I AM ALS and Team Gleason. During the event, AEW President Tony Khan donated $140,000 to ALS research and support organizations.
The program featured the return of ‘The Waiting Room’ segment, which included Brooks alongside Dr. Britt Baker, D. M. D., Persephone, and Hikaru Shida. In a six-woman tag match, Baker, Persephone, and Shida defeated Maya World, Hyan, and Thunder Rosa, aided by a distraction from Brooks, who appeared at ringside in a wheelchair.
In championship competition, Swerve Strickland and The New Level successfully defended the AEW World Trios Championship against The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong). Will Ospreay also won an AEW World Championship eliminator match against David Finlay. Other notable results included a tag team tables match won by The Young Bucks over Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight, and the televised in-ring debut of Steven Borden, son of WWE Hall of Famer Sting, who secured a victory alongside Darby Allin against Mark Davis and Josh Alexander.
