WWE SmackDown programming and Money in the Bank buildup

Overview

WWE SmackDown events in late 2026 serve as narrative build-ups for the upcoming Money in the Bank event.

In late September, an episode in Indianapolis featured a six-woman tag team match involving Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton, and Paige against the group Fatal Influence. This card also included a Steel Cage match for the United States Championship and qualifying matches for the Money in the Bank ladder matches.

By early October, the focus shifted to an upcoming event in Lafayette, Louisiana. Scheduled matches included a Women’s Tag Team Championship bout where Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley were set to challenge the champions, Fatal Influence. High-profile participants such as CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and Gunther were also expected to appear.

On the October 9 episode of SmackDown, the Women’s Tag Team Championship changed hands. Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley defeated the champions, Fatal Influence (Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley), to secure the titles. Bliss entered the match as a replacement for Charlotte Flair, who was unable to compete following a backstage attack by Jade Cargill, B-Fab, and Michin. This victory marks the first main roster championship for Paxley and the fifth Women’s Tag Team Championship reign for Bliss. The outcome has led to speculation regarding the future direction of Flair’s character.
