Xdinary Heroes leader Gunil contract dispute

JYP Entertainment terminated the exclusive contract of Gunil, the leader and drummer of the K-pop rock band Xdinary Heroes, following allegations of misconduct. The controversy began when a woman claiming to be his former partner released audio recordings and messages in which a voice alleged to be Gunil’s was heard disparaging fans and criticizing bandmates.

Gunil addressed the recordings via the Bubble messaging app, admitting they were real but stating his comments were directed at “sasaengs” (stalker fans) and malicious commenters rather than the general fanbase. He cited mental exhaustion due to privacy violations, including claims that stalkers had placed a GPS tracker on his vehicle.

Following his departure, Xdinary Heroes reorganized as a five-member group and canceled scheduled performances at the Summer Sonic 2026 festival in Japan. However, a legal dispute has emerged regarding the nature of his exit. While JYP Entertainment suggested the termination followed discussions making it difficult for Gunil to continue activities, Gunil’s legal counsel has disputed this, stating he did not voluntarily leave nor consent to the termination. His attorney acknowledged the use of “inappropriate expressions” in a private setting but maintains there are no valid grounds for the agency to end the contract.
