Xiaomi software and operating system developments
Overview
Xiaomi has initiated the rollout of HyperOS 4, which integrates Android 17 across Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices. The update, which began in China before expanding globally, introduces the ‘Soft Light Glass’ design language and emphasizes artificial intelligence through Xiaomi HyperAI and Super XiaoAi 2.0. Functional improvements include enhanced memory management and expanded multi-device integration via Xiaomi HyperConnect.
Xiaomi has officially announced a global rollout schedule for HyperOS 4, spanning three waves between early November and December 2026. This deployment covers approximately 82 devices, including 67 smartphones and 15 tablets. The first wave, starting in early November, targets premium flagship devices such as the Xiaomi 17 series, Xiaomi 15 series, the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, and the Xiaomi Pad 8 series, alongside various POCO F8 and X8 models. The second wave, expected in mid-November, includes the Xiaomi 15T series, POCO F9 and F7 families, and several tablets. The final wave in December will reach mass-market and older hardware, including the Xiaomi MIX Flip, the Xiaomi 14 and 13 series, and the Redmi Note 14 family.
HyperOS 4 introduces a redesigned ‘Soft Light Glass’ visual engine for a more fluid and transparent interface, featuring translucent panels, redesigned notifications, and enhanced lock screen customization. Additionally, Xiaomi claims that an AI-driven background algorithm will optimize system performance, potentially increasing app launch speeds by up to 20% after a day of use. The update also integrates Super XiaoAi 2.0, an AI assistant powered by the MiMo large language model, which offers advanced capabilities like smart home control and photo library searching. In a separate technical development, a Chinese developer using the pseudonym Jiang Ling Xia Cao has reportedly ported Apple’s iOS 17 to a Xiaomi Redmi K90 Pro Max.
