Yemen energy infrastructure development

Overview

Yemen is undertaking several initiatives to stabilize its electrical system and address acute power deficits.

Initially, Saudi Arabia provided 350 megawatts of power generation capacity through the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen. This capacity was designated for Hadramaut (200 MW), Aden (100 MW), and Taiz (50 MW) to increase supply hours and mitigate outages.

Following this, Yemen and Oman signed a cooperation agreement to implement an electrical interconnection project between Oman’s Dhofar Governorate and Yemen’s Al Mahrah Governorate. The project aims to supply approximately 58 megawatts to districts including Al Ghaydah, Shahan, and Hof via the Dhofar public grid, with completion expected within two to three years.
