Yemen regional integration and security discussions

Discussions regarding Yemen’s regional integration and stability have centered on its strategic importance to the Arabian Peninsula and maritime security. Qatari official Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari proposed a strategic vision for rebuilding Yemen, suggesting that the country should eventually be prepared for membership in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Al Kuwari noted that Yemen is a “fundamental historical, cultural, and geographical pillar” of the region, and that its stability is vital for Red Sea security and global trade.

Following these proposals, Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba reinforced the link between Yemeni stability and Gulf security during a visit to Doha. She emphasized that Yemen serves as a “geographic and economic extension of the Gulf,” particularly regarding the Bab al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden. Al-Zouba called for the restoration of state authority to prevent the country from being used as a platform for regional conflicts and criticized Iranian support for Houthi militias. Additionally, she engaged in discussions regarding educational cooperation and economic empowerment for Yemeni youth to support long-term recovery.
