Yemen road maintenance initiatives

In late July 2026 Yemen’s Minister of Public Works and Roads, Hussein Al‑Aqrabi, chaired a meeting of the Road Maintenance Fund leadership in Aden, urging a doubling of road‑maintenance efforts, stronger supervision, institutional reforms and transparent planning to improve service quality across the country’s governorates.

A few days later, on 1 August 2026, the minister jointly inaugurated a 26‑kilometre rehabilitation of the Nushma‑Hobban Quds road in Taiz governorate. The project, financed by the same Road Maintenance Fund and executed by the Public Roads and Bridges Authority, includes resurfacing, bridge repairs and new traffic‑safety signs, aiming to boost safety, ease travel for residents and stimulate economic activity.

Together the snapshots show a shift from high‑level policy calls for intensified road work to concrete implementation of a specific rehabilitation project, reflecting the government’s move toward delivering on its announced reforms and investment in Yemen’s road infrastructure.
