Yemen marks 64th anniversary of September 26 Revolution

Yemen is observing the 64th anniversary of the September 26 Revolution, which established the republic in 1962. Civil service ministries in both Sana’a and Aden announced official holidays to commemorate the milestone. In Sana’a, the holiday was set for September 26, while Aden designated Sunday as the official day off for government employees.

In Marib, celebrations included the lighting of a ceremonial flame by Presidential Leadership Council member Sultan al-Arada and Chief of Staff Saghir bin Aziz. These festivities featured ceremonial displays by scout groups and youth representing the revolution’s six core goals. During these events, youth groups presented a symbolic ‘Covenant of Loyalty’ to President Rashad al-Alimi and the Presidential Leadership Council, reaffirming commitment to the principles of the September 26 and October 14 revolutions. Al-Arada stated that the Yemeni people remain determined to restore the state and its institutions.

Political discussions have highlighted the ongoing struggle to preserve republican identity against attempts by Houthi militias to erase the revolution’s history through curriculum changes and the suppression of national celebrations. Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, head of the National Coalition for Political Parties and Components, has called for unified political efforts to support state institutions and restore full control over Yemeni territory.

Parallel to the commemorations, Marib authorities inaugurated nine new educational and health projects in the city district. Funded by the local authority at a cost exceeding 5 billion riyals, these projects include eight educational facilities and one health project aimed at enhancing infrastructure and services in the region.
