Youth employment and training initiatives in Mozambique
Overview
Efforts to address youth unemployment in Mozambique have expanded through both private foundation initiatives and large-scale government programs.
The MozYouth Foundation has facilitated paid professional internships for over 2,500 individuals aged 18 to 35. The foundation reports that approximately 50 percent of these interns secured permanent employment. This program, which partners with over 250 companies, includes a new project in the northern region funded by the World Bank and Conecta Negócios to improve labor market access.
Following these developments, the Government of Mozambique launched the ‘Acredita Emprega’ program. This initiative aims to provide professional training scholarships and entrepreneurship support to 72,000 young people across 11 provinces. The program emphasizes gender inclusion, with women making up 70 percent of the beneficiaries. Additionally, 14,400 women will receive non-reimbursable grants of 100,000 meticais to support business expansion, alongside mentorship and training in sectors such as technology, agriculture, and services.
