Youth-related public disorder in Vietnam

Overview

Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau are investigating several incidents of public disorder involving youth groups.

In one case, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency prosecuted six individuals, mostly aged 15 to 18, for “disturbing public order” following an assault near Vo Thi Sau Lake. The group reportedly used hands, feet, and helmets to attack a victim, with one individual brandishing a machete. Two of the individuals also face charges for “organizing the illegal use of narcotics.”

Separately, police are investigating 21 teenagers for illegal street racing using modified electric vehicles. The group reportedly used social media to gain engagement and employed a logistics plan involving rented vans and trucks to transport their vehicles to the area to evade law enforcement.
