Youth volunteering programs in Galicia
Overview
Youth volunteering initiatives in Galicia, Spain, have focused on environmental protection, cultural heritage, and international exchange.
In late July, the “Arousa Azul” environmental camp in Vilanova de Arousa engaged approximately 21 young people of Galician descent from countries including Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, Brazil, and Cuba to clean beaches and seas. Concurrently, the youth association Amencer prepared for its 39th urban camp in Ourense, which included mural restoration.
By August, volunteering efforts expanded to include the “Viaxe pola Istoria” program in Ribadavia. This cultural and theatrical initiative, supported by the Xunta de Galicia, incorporated international participants from France, Italy, and Mexico. Volunteers engaged with local history through role-playing and museum visits to prepare for the Festa da Istoria. Additionally, the European Solidarity Corps has been noted for facilitating personal growth and community building through service-oriented experiences.
