YouTube expands Shopping affiliate program globally

Overview

YouTube has integrated Amazon into its Shopping affiliate program, enabling eligible United States-based creators to tag Amazon products directly within Shorts, long-form videos, and livestreams. This update shifts the shopping experience away from traditional description-box links toward native product tagging.

Amazon provides a curated catalog of trending products, and YouTube has introduced an auto-tagging feature that uses automated systems to scan recent uploads for relevant items. Creators can also request specific items not found in the catalog through YouTube Support.

To participate, creators must be members of both the YouTube Partner Program and the Shopping affiliate program, while maintaining active Amazon Influencer or Associates accounts. Earnings are tracked daily in YouTube Studio and paid through AdSense, though detailed analytics for individual products are not provided. If a customer returns a product, the associated commission is deducted from the creator’s balance.

YouTube is expanding the Shopping affiliate program globally. In Germany, the rollout includes ten major retailers such as Otto, Kaufland, MediaMarktSaturn, and Tchibo, utilizing the Google Merchant Center to synchronize catalogs. In Poland, the service is launching with Allegro as a primary partner. This expansion includes AI tools to identify products and a feature for Smart TV viewers to complete purchases by scanning QR codes with their mobile devices. Internal testing suggests these interface shifts can increase product clicks by approximately 110 percent.

The program has now launched in the Netherlands, marking the second mainland European country to receive the feature. Bol.com has been announced as the first local retail partner for this rollout. To expand reach, YouTube is collaborating with the social agency Team5pm. Additionally, the eligibility threshold for creators in this program has been set at a minimum of 500 subscribers.
