Yucatán outreach to California migrants

In late July 2026, the Yucatán Institute for the Development of Maya Culture (Indemaya) began expanding its support for the Yucatecan diaspora in California. An initial meeting in Oxnard and Los Ángeles with Mexican consular officials focused on enhancing consular services, issuing birth certificates for children born in the United States, and promoting cultural programs such as the “Mi Casa es Tu Casa” initiative.

A few days later, Indemaya set up free advisory tables in Thousand Oaks and San Bernardino, offering direct assistance on dual citizenship, birth‑certificate corrections, CURP, passport procedures and legal matters. The sessions, led by director José Feliciano Moo y Can and migrant‑services staff, gathered community feedback and emphasized the state's commitment to maintaining cultural ties and reducing the need for migrants to travel back to Mexico for routine paperwork.
