Zacatecas infrastructure and economic development

Governor David Monreal Ávila has focused on infrastructure and public works as central components of development in Zacatecas. In July 2026, the governor inspected the modernization of Parque Arroyo de la Plata, a project involving over 91.8 million pesos to build a gym, gastronomic terraces, and new access points intended to serve residents of Zacatecas and Guadalupe.

By August 2026, the administration highlighted a broader investment strategy, noting that over 12 billion pesos were invested in various sectors—including roads, water, education, and health—between 2021 and 2025. Monreal identified public works and agriculture as the primary pillars for long-term growth, aiming to integrate the state into national development through strengthened mining, tourism, and industrial sectors.

During a ceremony at the Eleventh Military Zone in mid-August 2026, Monreal noted that improved security conditions, supported by the Mexican Army, National Guard, and state police, have facilitated high attendance for various national and international events, such as motorcycle gatherings and sporting competitions. Through the ‘Foros por la Transformación’ held in Sombrerete and the state capital, the Governor reported that the state maintains healthy finances with “zero debt” and has achieved three consecutive years of economic growth.
