Zagara d’Autunno exhibition in Palermo

Overview

The Palermo Botanical Garden hosted the 31st edition of the Zagara d’Autunno gardening and floriculture exhibition and market. A central feature of the event was a documentary exhibition titled ‘La manna dei frassini tra mito, paesaggio, saperi e tradizioni’, which explored the traditional production of manna from ash trees.

The exhibition highlighted the cultural and economic importance of manna harvesting in the Madonie region, specifically within the landscapes of Castelbuono and Pollina. Displays included historical tools, botanical specimens, and documentation of the production process, from tree care to harvesting.

The event involved collaboration between the University of Palermo and the Madonie Park Authority, which has supported the industry through research on product characteristics and varietal germplasm.
