ZFN fighter Kim Jung-woo assault investigation
Overview
Mixed martial arts fighter Kim Jung-woo was involved in a violent incident during a YouTube live broadcast in Incheon, South Korea. During the stream, Kim applied a ‘guillotine choke’ to a male viewer in his 20s. Although the victim repeatedly tapped to signal surrender, Kim reportedly did not release the hold, causing the man to lose consciousness and strike his head against the floor.
Reports indicate that following the loss of consciousness, Kim patted the victim’s cheeks and made a comment to the effect of “let him sleep” instead of providing medical aid. The victim was hospitalized with symptoms of partial paralysis. The YouTuber who organized the broadcast apologized, stating they initially believed the victim was merely acting to create dramatic tension.
In response to the incident, the MMA organization ZFN terminated Kim’s contract, citing a violation of the athlete contract’s “dignity maintenance clause.” Incheon Seobu Police have booked Kim on assault charges and are investigating whether other individuals present during the broadcast were complicit in the assault.
