Cordelia Cruises fleet expansion and Cordelia Sky launch

Overview

Cordelia Cruises has officially launched the Cordelia Sky, marking the company’s transition to a two-ship fleet. The vessel, formerly known as the Norwegian Sky, is approximately 260 metres long with a gross tonnage of 77,104. Following a refit at the Beşiktaş Shipyard in Turkey—relocated from Dubai due to regional tensions—the ship features 12 decks, 1,002 staterooms, 10 restaurants, and 11 bars.

The Cordelia Sky began operations in Mumbai on October 23, 2026, with initial itineraries consisting of two- to five-night roundtrips to Goa and the Lakshadweep Islands. Looking toward summer 2027, the cruise line plans to offer seven-night Southeast Asia voyages departing from Chennai to destinations including Phuket, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.

As part of a broader regional expansion, the company’s other vessel, the MV Empress, recently made its maiden call at Cochin Port, which has been designated as a new home port to strengthen connectivity between India, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka.

Cordelia Cruises President and CEO Jurgen Bailom stated the company aims to position India among the “world’s five largest cruise markets by 2032.” This expansion is expected to generate 20,000 additional jobs over the next three years. Future growth plans include adding a second vessel in 2027 and an international 34-day voyage from Mumbai to Sydney during the 2028 monsoon season.
