Italian municipal sports facility renovations
Overview
Italian municipalities are undertaking various projects to renovate and modernize local sports infrastructure.
In Zocca, the inauguration of the “Ferruccio Trabattoni” synthetic sports field was held to mark the 75th anniversary of the FC Zocca football club. Similarly, in Villagrande, the Zazzo Melis sports field is being modernized with a new synthetic turf surface following a 600,000 euro regional grant.
Other regional efforts focus on maintenance and safety. In Todi, the Province of Perugia has allocated 150,000 euros for electrical system upgrades at the Pontenaia sports hall to ensure safety compliance. Plans are underway to transfer management of the facility to the Municipality of Todi once upgrades are complete to facilitate future energy efficiency investments. In Macherio, the local sports hall will close for approximately one year starting in November for structural repairs and energy efficiency upgrades, supported by regional and municipal funding. To mitigate impacts on education, schools have arranged alternative locations for physical education classes.
In Piacenza, the municipality approved a 260,000 euro project for extraordinary maintenance at the Stadio Leonardo Garilli. This includes renovating the West Stand toilet block, repairing leaks in the East Stand, installing a new 300 kVA generator for floodlight emergency power, and restoring concrete and paving. Meanwhile, in Naples, a 1.5 million euro budget variation has been approved to recover the sports field in via Nuova Dietro la Vigna. The facility has been abandoned since 2014; the funding will restore the pitch, stands, and a 450-square-meter building for locker rooms. This project is part of the “Napoli Capitale Europea dello Sport 2026” program.
