ASELSAN defense technology developments
Overview
ASELSAN has conducted successful tests of new defense systems. In early October, the company tested GÖKALP, an autonomous kinetic drone defense system designed to protect military bases and critical facilities. The system uses AURA radar and DRONEDEF software to deploy GÖKALP E1 interceptor drones, which utilize a “hit-to-kill” method to neutralize targets at ranges exceeding 7 kilometers.
Later in the month, ASELSAN completed qualification range testing for the KGK-84 Winged Guidance Kit. Tested via an F-16 fighter jet at the Sinop Shooting Range, the kit converts 2,000-pound class free-fall bombs—including the MK-84, MK-84-T, NEB, and NEB-T series—into long-range smart munitions. The system features a deployable wing for gliding capabilities, providing an “at-forget” range of up to 100 kilometers. This allows aircraft to strike targets from safe distances without entering enemy air defense range. The kit utilizes an integrated inertial navigation system (ANS), a global positioning system (KKS), and a CRPA anti-jam antenna to resist electronic warfare and GNSS/GPS interference. It is capable of operating in all weather conditions, day or night, and is compliant with the MIL-STD-1760 military standard.
Additionally, the Siper-2 long-range air defense and missile system demonstrated high operational flexibility during recent testing. According to Haluk Görgün, head of the Presidency of Defense Industries, the system successfully intercepted a target and then adjusted its trajectory mid-flight to engage a second target with updated data. These tests included engagements against sea-skimming targets and demonstrated successful guidance during both mid-course and terminal phases.
