39th Plurinational Meeting of Women in Argentina

Overview

The 39th Plurinational Meeting of Women, Lesbians, Travestis, Trans, Bisexuals, Intersex, and Non-Binary people concluded in Córdoba, Argentina, following its run from October 10 to October 12, 2026.

The gathering drew massive crowds, with estimates placing participation between 100,000 and 200,000 people. Local officials noted the logistical scale of hosting such numbers, with Vice Governor Myrian Prunotto highlighting that more than 300 autonomous organizations participated without a single central leadership, requiring significant provincial and municipal coordination for accommodation and sanitation.

Throughout the event, participants engaged in political assemblies, cultural exchanges, and marches addressing issues such as transvesticide and gender-based violence. Discussions centered on 13 thematic axes, including health, education, and labor, with a specific focus on the impact of economic austerity on diverse populations. Participants maintained a stance of strong opposition to President Javier Milei’s administration, criticizing the defunding of gender assistance programs, the rise of hate speech, and perceived threats to social rights and public education.

During the closing ceremony, the assembly utilized a traditional democratic voting system known as the ‘aplausómetro’ to determine the location for the next gathering. Buenos Aires was selected to host the 40th Plurinational Encounter in 2027, a move intended to increase political visibility at the national level. The event featured over 100 thematic workshops addressing gender-based violence, labor inequality, and reproductive rights, functioning as an autonomous, self-funded space for collective organization.
