43rd Authentic Marathon of Athens preparations

Overview

Preparations are advancing for the 43rd Authentic Marathon of Athens, scheduled for November 7-8, 2026. The event is expected to host a record-breaking 85,000 runners. To manage this high volume of participants, organizers have recruited a record 5,000 volunteers from Greece and 30 other countries. These volunteers, aged 15 to 84, will provide support in areas such as nutrition, security, and clothing.

Due to the increased participation, several logistical updates have been implemented. The start time for the main marathon on Sunday, November 8, has been moved earlier to 08:30. Additionally, a new plan for the partial transport of runners to the starting line will be utilized for the first time. To accommodate the schedule, races for children and persons with disabilities (PWD) will now be held on Saturday, November 7, rather than Sunday.

The Saturday, November 7 program includes the 1,200m children's race and the SOH & AmEA Telekom race at 16:00, the 5km Telekom race at 17:00, and the 5km Universities Night Run at 20:00. The Sunday program begins with the 10km allwyn race at 08:00.

The event’s commemorative medal, designed by sculptor Kyriakos Rokos, features a “dove in motion as a central symbol of peace” alongside elements representing the sun, the sea, and a staircase connecting the start and finish lines. The Municipality of Rafina-Pikermi has also announced a 1,000-meter road race for primary school children, requiring registration via the gov.gr platform by early November.
