Adif railway expansion in Spain
Entities: Humanes · Illescas · Griñón · Cercanías · Adif
Overview
In July 2026 Spain’s railway infrastructure manager Adif announced a major recruitment drive, opening 1,531 public‑sector positions across operational, managerial, technical and high‑speed specialisations. Transport Minister Óscar Puente highlighted the hiring as the largest at Adif in five years, aimed at strengthening the rail network.
The following month Adif unveiled a project to renovate Griñón station and extend a new electrified line to Illescas, linking Humanes, Griñón and Illescas. The plan includes a €2.6 million design tender, a second electrified track, modern signalling, a refurbished passenger building, platforms, underpass with elevator and parking. Together, the hiring push and infrastructure upgrades illustrate Adif’s broader effort to expand and modernise Spain’s commuter‑rail and high‑speed services.
