Aeon retail facility expansions in Japan

Overview

Aeon Town and Aeon Retail continue to expand their commercial footprint across Japan through various urban redevelopment and new store projects.

In Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Aeon Town Co., Ltd. is developing the Aeon Town Sakai Mizugaike shopping center, scheduled to open in the winter of 2027. Part of the Mizugaike Park Improvement Project, the development utilizes the Park-PFI (Public-Private Partnership) system to integrate commercial facilities with urban park redevelopment and residential housing, such as the ‘Duo Hills Mizugaike Koen Verite’ condominiums. Located a three-minute walk from Fukai Station, the center will feature approximately 30 stores, including supermarkets, drugstores, and clinics, under a ‘Wellness Town in the Park’ concept.

Aeon Retail has also announced two openings for late 2026. In Nagano Prefecture, ‘Aeon Style Suwa’ is set to open on October 21, 2026, at the former Aeon Suwa site. The facility will include a specialty building, a self-service cafe, and a childcare and multi-generational exchange facility. In Ibaraki Prefecture, the ‘Soyora Tsukuba Gakuen no Mori’ urban shopping center is scheduled to open on October 25 near Kenkyu-gakuen Station, featuring an ‘Aeon Style Tsukuba Gakuen no Mori’ anchor store and various specialty tenants.

In Kagoshima Prefecture, Aeon Mall has entered an agreement to acquire the site of the former Aeon Kagoshima Kamochi store from Aeon Kyushu. The transaction, expected to finalize on November 2, 2026, will allow Aeon Mall to lead the redevelopment of the site, which previously housed a Daiei store.
