Aeon TopValu low-cost consumer strategy

Overview

Aeon has implemented several strategies to address rising costs and consumer saving trends in Japan through its TopValu brand.

In late August, the retailer announced temporary price reductions on 145 TopValu items, including food and daily necessities, across approximately 10,000 stores. TopValu President Mitsuko Tsuchiya noted that the selection focuses on essential products that are “difficult for consumers to substitute,” with cost-cutting in packaging and design used to maintain lower prices despite rising logistics and energy costs.

Following these reductions, Aeon expanded its low-cost private brand, ‘TopValu Best Price,’ by launching a 1,000 yen apparel line in early September. This clothing range, which includes denim and sweatshirts for men, women, and children, aims to meet increasing consumer demand for affordable goods.
