Agricultural developments in Romania and Moldova
Overview
Agricultural initiatives and data collection efforts are underway in Romania and Moldova. In Romania, the Agri Next 2026 conference, organized by Adevărul and IC Events, is scheduled for November 3 at the Sheraton Hotel in Bucharest. The event aims to bring together farmers, investors, processors, and financial specialists to discuss the future of Romanian agriculture, focusing on farm financing, irrigation, food processing, energy independence, and digitalization to address climate change and market volatility.
In Moldova, the National Bureau of Statistics has launched the ‘Integrated Agricultural Survey’ (AIA). This pilot research project, running from October 19 to November 9, utilizes European statistical standards to gather data on land use, livestock, organic farming, and agricultural labor to assist in shaping national and European policies.
Furthering modernization efforts, the Moldovan Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry has outlined investment initiatives for the 2026–2029 period, supported by the European Union’s Growth Plan for Moldova 2025–2027. Key projects include ‘Livada Moldovei II’, a €150 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) primarily for private sector agricultural value chains, and a ‘Sustainable Water Supply’ project supported by the EBRD and the EU to rehabilitate irrigation infrastructure. Additionally, the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA) will open applications for DR-06 subsidies from October 28 to November 27, 2026, to support soil fertility enhancement under the Strategic Program for Agricultural Policy (PSPA).
