Aguascalientes economic and industrial development

Governor Tere Jiménez of Aguascalientes has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen the state’s economy through international cooperation and industrial partnerships.

In mid-August, the Governor met with the Spanish Ambassador to Mexico to discuss cooperation in sectors such as agri-food, tourism, and education. This engagement included discussions regarding the San Marcos National Fair and the potential impact of a modernized agreement between Mexico and Spain on local product access to the European Union. During this period, Jiménez also signed the ‘Pacto por la Prosperidad, la Justicia Económica y la Seguridad’ to support small businesses through digitalization and improved access to financing.

Following these diplomatic and regulatory efforts, the state reaffirmed its industrial ties with the automotive sector. Jiménez met with Nissan Motor Corporation CEO Iván Espinosa at the A1 plant to discuss ongoing projects and the company’s role as a primary driver of the local economy and employment ecosystem. This partnership, spanning over four decades, positions Aguascalientes as a major manufacturing hub and a key production center for Nissan in Latin America.

Furthering industrial expansion, Jiménez inaugurated a new production line for the corrugated cardboard packaging company Microcart at the Chichimeco Industrial Park in Jesús María. The expansion, adding approximately five hectares, is expected to generate up to 500 new jobs and increase processing capacity to 15,000 tons of cardboard per month. Additionally, the Governor met with over 120 local producers and agro-industrialists, noting that the agricultural sector contributed to a 13 percent growth in the state last year, and pledged continued support for modernization and market expansion.
