In early August 2026, Aban Ahmed, the 21-year-old son of former gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, was killed in a high-speed collision on the Jhansi-Kanpur highway. The crash occurred on August 6 in the Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh when the vehicle, a white Hyundai Creta, struck a concrete road divider while the occupants were traveling to meet Aban's elder brother, Ali Ahmed, in Jhansi jail. The accident also claimed the life of Aban's companion, Sonu, and left three others injured.

Dashcam footage from a vehicle traveling behind the Creta has emerged, showing the SUV speeding on the national highway before losing control, hitting the divider, and becoming airborne. Local authorities are currently working to verify the authenticity of the video. A post-mortem report revealed Aban sustained massive internal injuries, including a brain hemorrhage and ruptured organs.

The Allahabad High Court granted conditional parole to Aban's jailed brothers, Ali Ahmed and Mohammad Umar, on the condition that they travel under police custody and refrain from making public statements. Accompanied by approximately 30 police officers, the brothers were escorted to the Kasari-Masari cemetery in Prayagraj. Aban was laid to rest in a grave next to his father, Atiq Ahmed, amidst a large crowd and significant police presence.
