Attention shifted to Serie A side Atalanta, where former Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri is reportedly interested. Romagnoli has expressed a reluctance to join another Italian club out of respect for Lazio supporters, while the club seeks to off‑load his €5 million gross salary. Both clubs continue to monitor the situation as Lazio pursues alternative transfer targets. On 25 July 2026 the Al Sadd deal collapsed after the club received a ban on international operations and stricter foreign‑player limits, forcing a renegotiation of the €3 million fee.
