Alphadjo Cissè emergence at AC Milan

Overview

Alphadjo Cissè, a 19-year-old midfielder, has drawn significant attention from AC Milan following strong performances during the club’s preseason. Initially, reports highlighted his technical ability and offensive instincts during a friendly in Glasgow, leading coach Stefano Amorim to consider him for a creative role alongside other youth prospects. As the preseason progressed, Cissè’s profile strengthened after scoring in a match against Manchester United. Coach Ruben Amorim has indicated that the midfielder’s form may provide competition for established players such as Rafael Leão. While clubs including Torino and Sassuolo were pursuing loan deals, Milan is currently evaluating whether to retain Cissè in the senior squad or allow him to move on loan. Recent developments suggest Cissè is increasingly likely to remain with the first team. Manager Ruben Amorim has praised the midfielder’s ability to “operate in tight spaces, move between lines, and his effectiveness in crossing and offensive positioning.” This shift in direction follows a difficult period for the player last season during a loan at Catanzaro, where a severe adductor tendon injury required surgery. As the Serie A season began, Cissè has continued his ascent, scoring against both Torino and Juventus to become the club’s top scorer in the opening three matches. His high goal-to-minutes ratio has reportedly led to consideration by Roberto Mancini for a potential Italy national team call-up for the October Nations League. His form has also created competition for starting positions, potentially impacting players like Christian Pulisic. Journalist Alessandra Gozzini noted that AC Milan’s intervention was crucial last January, as a move to PSV Eindhoven had been nearly finalized with a flight already booked. Following his recent goal against Juventus, former youth coach Mattia Graziati, who coached Cissè at Indomita 21, described the teenager as a ‘predestinato’ (predestined).
