Apidya’ Special video game release
Overview
The video game remake ‘Apidya’ Special’, based on the 1992 Commodore Amiga shoot-’em-up, was scheduled for release in late August 2026. Developed by Team Apidya and published by ININ Games, the title was announced to be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
Prior to the launch, ININ Games released a countdown trailer and announced physical editions for the Nintendo Switch. These included a Limited Edition boxed version and a Special Edition containing a history artbook and a two-CD soundtrack collection by composer Chris Hülsbeck, which featured both original Amiga recordings and new studio versions.
Upon its release on August 25, 2026, the game was noted as a 24-bit pixel remake built without emulation. It offers two visual modes: a modern HD widescreen mode and an original 4:3 mode featuring CRT shaders like scanlines and phosphor bloom. The game includes five themed worlds and a remastered soundtrack by composer Chris Hülsbeck. This version, originally developed by the German studio Kaiko for the Amiga, incorporates assets from a previously abandoned console port, blending original material with new visual elements. Players navigate five themed worlds fighting mutant bees in a story centered on the characters Ikuro and Yuri.
The release includes a remastered soundtrack featuring “previously unreleased studio arrangements” by Chris Hülsbeck. Gameplay features 20 unique bosses and a two-player cooperative mode where both players control full-sized bees. The remake aims to capture the digital nostalgia of the original era, which featured a distinctive Japanese aesthetic.
