Apple HomePod mini hardware updates

Overview

Reports initially suggested that Apple was preparing an upgraded version of the HomePod mini, marking its first hardware update since 2020. These rumors indicated a significant processor upgrade, potentially moving to an S10 or S11 chip to improve speed and wireless connectivity, alongside new color options.

Following these reports, the second-generation HomePod mini was detailed as featuring the S10 chip and computational audio algorithms designed to improve bass and dynamic range. The device offers enhanced integration within the Apple ecosystem, functioning as a default system speaker for specific Mac and iPad models via Wi-Fi 6. It also leverages Apple Intelligence for context-aware Siri assistance, supports voice recognition for up to six different users, and can be paired with up to four units with the Apple TV 4K.

Apple has officially announced the HomePod mini 2, with a scheduled release date of October 30, 2026. The updated speaker features the S10 chip, which analyzes music in real time to optimize volume, acoustics, and dynamic range. Positioned as a central smart home hub, the device can function as a standalone speaker, a stereo pair, or a Mac speaker. When paired with a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, four units can be configured into a four-channel surround sound system that automatically calibrates audio timing and levels based on room positioning. The HomePod mini 2 will be available in five colors with a suggested retail price of €169.
