Argentina participation in 2026 regional summits

On 31 July, Governor Axel Kicillof announced his plan to travel to Montevideo for the III Pan American Congress, a meeting of roughly 100 progressive leaders aimed at forging a common agenda against the rise of right‑wing governments in Latin America.

The following week, on 20 August, the 23rd Council of the Americas convened in Buenos Aires, bringing together President Javier Milei, Economy Minister Luis Caputo, Foreign Minister Pablo Qirnoy, deregulation minister Federico Sturzenegger, Buenos Aires Governor Jorge Macri and other business leaders. Organisers presented the conference as a barometer for policy debates ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

On 21 August, Kicillof confirmed his participation in the congress, which was chaired by Uruguay’s President Yamandú Orsi and Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Delegates discussed regional economic integration, re‑industrialisation, digital sovereignty, multilateralism and security, underscoring Argentina’s active role in shaping regional political and economic agendas during the summer of 2026.
