Argentine provincial industrial and energy development

Overview

Argentine provinces are pursuing diverse strategies to bolster industrial, technological, and energy development through international cooperation and regional summits.

Initial efforts focused on diplomatic and commercial missions to strengthen global ties. Chaco representatives engaged with Italian trade associations to promote agro-industrial products, while La Pampa sought cooperation with Portugal regarding solar energy. In Formosa, authorities conducted technical inspections of hydrocarbon and lithium production sites.

Subsequent initiatives shifted toward hosting specialized summits and workshops. La Pampa scheduled innovation workshops to integrate artificial intelligence with the productive sector, and Salta announced the ‘Argentina Space’ hub to connect space technology with mining and telecommunications.

Recent developments show an intensified focus on large-scale energy investment and infrastructure. In Santa Cruz, Governor Claudio Vidal signed a contract with Alianza Petrolera Argentina S.A. to develop the Sur Río Deseado Este hydrocarbon area using Canadian multilateral horizontal drilling technology. The provincial government also completed port infrastructure improvements at Caleta Paula, valued at over 850 million pesos.

In the Neuquén region, the Vaca Muerta formation continues to attract massive investment. A USD 12 billion project in the Bajo del Choique-La Invernada joint venture between Gas y Petróleo Neuquén and Pluspetrol has been approved under the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), aiming to drill over 600 wells. Additionally, GeoPark has expanded its presence by acquiring the Corralera Noreste block for USD 60.5 million.

On a national scale, YPF President Horacio Marín announced that the tender for the USD 2 billion Argentina LNG pipeline project will occur within two weeks, with a final investment decision expected by late November. Tierra del Fuego continues to promote opportunities in the Austral Basin to expand its production.
