Athens International Airport S.A. has experienced significant passenger growth alongside shifting financial and strategic developments during the first three quarters of 2026.

In August, the airport reached a historic milestone with 4.03 million monthly passengers, a 3.7% increase over the previous year. This growth was supported by a 2.4% rise in domestic movements and a 4.3% rise in international movements. For the first eight months of 2026, total passenger traffic reached 23.71 million, up 4.4% from 2025, while total flight activity increased by 3.9%.

Financial reports for the first half of 2026 indicated a 4.5% increase in passenger traffic to 15.8 million. However, total revenues and other income saw a slight decrease of 2.8% to €299.6 million, a decline attributed to a temporary 30% discount on the Passenger Service Charge applied between October 1, 2025, and April 30, 2026. Profits after taxes were reported at €81.4 million, an 11.6% decrease. Adjusted EBITDA stood at €168.5 million with a margin of 56.2%.

In response to operational needs, the Board of Directors has decided to restructure its ‘40 million passenger’ expansion program. The company will transition to a more flexible, phased approach to increase capacity gradually, aiming to minimize disruptions to commercial and operational functions during construction. Management has indicated a potential to exceed the 40-million capacity limit if economically viable, with capital expenditures for expansion through 2030 estimated at €950 million. For the full year of 2026, the airport forecasts passenger traffic growth in the mid-single digits.
