Autumn illumination events in Japanese parks

Overview

Various parks in Japan have announced autumn illumination events for late 2026.

In Oita Prefecture, Kuju Flower Park in Aso-Kuju National Park scheduled a five-day “Night Flower Park Autumn” event for October. The event features soft lighting to highlight seasonal blooms like red Kochia and cockscomb, alongside views of the starry sky.

In Tokyo, Showa Kinen Park has detailed its ‘Autumn Night Walk 2026’, which is scheduled to run from October 29 through November 29. The event features light-up displays between 16:30 and 20:30 at several locations, including the Canal, the Katari no Icho tree-lined avenue, the Japanese Garden, and the Bonsai Garden.

The park’s illumination was recently recognized as part of the 21st Japan Nightscape Heritage certification, with specific praise for the lighting of the ginkgo trees. To support the event, the park’s official app will release new content on October 22 titled “Twelve Views to Enjoy the Japanese Garden”, which will include historical insights and digital stamps.
