Azerbaijan diplomatic expansion and visa agreements

Overview

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Azerbaijan engaged in several diplomatic efforts to expand its international connections through visa liberalization and high-level meetings.

Azerbaijan and Colombia signed a bilateral agreement to eliminate visa requirements for ordinary passport holders to facilitate tourism, business, and academic exchanges. The implementation of this measure is pending the completion of formal diplomatic procedures, including the exchange of passport specimens and verbal notes between the respective foreign ministries.

Azerbaijan further expanded these efforts by signing visa liberalization agreements with Saint Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, and Benin. The agreements with Saint Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda include mutual exemptions for diplomatic, official, service, and ordinary passport holders, while the agreement with Benin focuses on diplomatic and service passport holders.

In October, during the first official visit of Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith to Azerbaijan, the two nations adopted a Joint Declaration. This visit included the signing of documents to implement mutual visa waivers for service passport holders and aimed to expand cooperation in agriculture, energy, mining, transport, and education.

Additionally, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov met with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to discuss bilateral relations, regional stability in the Middle East, and cooperation regarding the upcoming Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit and the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan.
