Bangladesh student examination and scholarship developments
Overview
Education officials and student groups in Bangladesh are addressing academic continuity following recent examinations. Education boards have proposed introducing interim or re-examinations for students who failed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams, with a goal of conducting these within three months of the initial results. While officials initially noted that re-examinations for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) were unfeasible due to college admission timelines, the SSC 2026 Student Rights Movement has formally called for special supplementary examinations.
This student movement is seeking policy changes to reduce mental stress and is requesting that successful supplementary candidates be permitted to enroll in Class 11 within the same academic year. Concurrently, the Dhaka Education Board has released scholarship recipient lists for the 2026 SSC results, outlining monthly stipends and annual grants for both merit and general scholars.
Regarding the HSC cycle, Professor Syed Akteruzzaman, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and President of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, has confirmed that the 2026 HSC and equivalent examination results will be published on Thursday, October 29. A total of 1,270,583 students participated in the exams across 11 education boards. Although written examinations began on July 2, natural disasters including floods in regions such as Chattogram caused delays for certain subjects. Detailed instructions for accessing results are expected via a press notice on October 26.
