Bartosz Zmarzlik professional developments

Overview

Speedway rider Bartosz Zmarzlik has faced several professional challenges involving league regulations and championship preparations. In Sweden, Zmarzlik announced his departure from Lejonen Gislaved in the Bauhaus-Ligan. This decision follows the implementation of a tire monopoly by the Swedish federation, SVEMO, intended to reduce costs by making the Czech company Mitas the exclusive supplier starting in 2027. Lejonen Gislaved manager Anders Fröjd criticized the move, suggesting the shift toward cheaper equipment for local riders has driven away international stars. Zmarzlik is expected to move to the Danish league.

Zmarzlik’s pursuit of a record-breaking seventh world championship title concluded at the Motoarena in Toruń, Poland. Entering the final round of the Speedway Grand Prix in a high-stakes three-way battle, Zmarzlik was a favorite with 144 points, trailing Robert Lambert’s 142 and ahead of Brady Kurtz’s 139. Ultimately, Robert Lambert secured the world championship title, ending Zmarzlik’s streak of four consecutive world championships. Lambert, representing the PRES Toruń club, overcame a 23-point deficit earlier in the season to finish with 162 points, narrowly defeating Zmarzlik by just two points.

In the decisive final heat, Lambert defeated Brady Kurtz, Bartosz Zmarzlik, and Patryk Dudek to claim the gold. Following the race, Lambert described the experience as “pure euphoria,” noting that while many in the crowd supported Zmarzlik, the atmosphere in Toruń felt like home. Although Zmarzlik finished third in the decisive race, he earned his 10th world championship medal. Zmarzlik expressed satisfaction with the achievement, stating, “Even as a child, I did not dream of such things.” Following the event, Zmarzlik announced he would auction his silver medal to support a charity fund for Laura Grzelak, a child battling Rett syndrome.
