Bihar political opposition allegations against state
Overview
Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, has leveled a series of allegations against the state government concerning law and order, industrial credibility, and fiscal stability.
Initially, Yadav criticized the administration for governance failures, specifically alleging that Bihar is becoming a “capital of exam paper leaks” due to irregularities in competitive exams. He also accused police of using excessive force, including the use of an AK-47 during a protest.
As the situation progressed, Yadav expanded his criticism to include a purported fiscal crisis. He claimed the state's fiscal deficit reached 5.8 percent of the GSDP, the highest among major Indian states, leading to difficulties in paying employees and pensioners. He further alleged that the government lacks long-term debt management plans, resulting in cuts to student scholarships and credit cards. Regarding law and order, he accused the government of attempting to create a ‘police state’, citing the death of 19-year-old Roshan Yadav in Madhubani jail as an instance of alleged police torture and murder.
Most recently, Yadav has extended formal support to ongoing student protests in Patna, involving groups such as the Bihar PhD Scholars Association and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). These demonstrations, which have lasted 19 days, demand an end to paper leaks and more transparent testing. Yadav visited hunger strike sites to support BPSC TRE-4 aspirants, accusing the Education Minister of ruining the education system and failing to engage in dialogue. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has pledged to continue fighting for student rights through street demonstrations.
