Biotech Week 2026 and StartupLab Patagonia Development

Overview

The third edition of Biotech Week 2026 was scheduled to be held in Puerto Varas, Chile, from September 8 to 10. Organized by the Municipality of Puerto Varas and the Patagonia Biotech Hub, the event aimed to connect Chile’s national biotechnology ecosystem by bringing together scientists, entrepreneurs, students, investors, and industry leaders.

The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between scientific-technological capabilities and the needs of productive sectors, positioning the Los Lagos Region as a hub for biotechnological development. Mayor Tomás Gárate Silva described the event as a participatory space that “democratizes innovation” by involving local communities, while Eduardo Wallach, president of the Patagonia Biotech Hub, noted its potential to catalyze a “biotechnological revolution” in the region.

Following the event, construction has commenced on StartupLab Patagonia in Puerto Varas. Led by the Patagonia Biotech Hub and supported by Corfo, this project aims to develop approximately 1,000 square meters of infrastructure over the next five years to strengthen the local scientific-technological ecosystem. The facility is intended to support roughly 100 startups by providing access to specialized laboratories, acceleration programs, and industry connections, facilitating the scaling of scientific-based solutions for international markets.
