Brazil municipal road repair initiatives

Overview

In late July 2026 the municipality of Ilhéus finished the critical sections of the Sapucaeira road in the Olivença district, restoring access for public transport, school buses and agricultural shipments. Interior Secretary José Victor said the improvements address the mud‑filled and sand‑blocked conditions that had plagued the route.

In Rio Grande do Sul, work on the ERS‑347 highway between Segredo and Lagoão resumed in Serrinha do Pinhal after a pause that began in March. The state continues to transfer 2 million reais per month to the contractor, and Mayor Nélio Fornari highlighted the expected boost to local commerce and job creation.

Also in July, Guarapari in Espírito Santo inaugurated a newly paved road in the Vila Buback community of Reta Grande, ending seasonal mud and dust problems. Mayor Rodrigo Borges presented the project as part of a broader effort to improve mobility, safety and accessibility, a change praised by residents.

In Bahia, Guanambi began asphalt works on 1.45 km of avenues linking the Boa Vista neighbourhood to the industrial district and major highways BR‑030 and BA‑573. Funded with about R$1.7 million and using a double‑surface treatment, Infrastructure Secretary Dalmo Viana said the works are part of a larger municipal program to create new routes for residents, industrial traffic and health‑facility access.

Together, these actions extend the coordinated effort across Brazilian municipalities to repair and upgrade key roadways, mitigate climate‑related disruptions, and support local economies.
