Brazil municipal schools resume semester and expand capacity

In late July 2026 municipal schools in Arapongas and Carpina reopened, enrolling more than 11,000 students after teacher training and infrastructure upgrades. A week later, on 3 August, a broader wave of reopenings took place across several states, with thousands of pupils returning to schools in Ubatuba, Goiânia, Itabira, Imperatriz, Paraíso do Tocantins, Jaraguá do Sul and Uberlândia. Municipal officials highlighted coordinated planning, modernised facilities, technology‑enhanced pedagogy and early‑enrollment drives for the 2027 academic year.

On the same day, additional municipalities announced capacity‑expansion and staff‑development measures for the second semester of 2026. In Anápolis, the network opened 539 new early‑education slots, added hundreds of places, began construction of a full‑time school for 455 students and renovated another for 780. Caucaia completed structural renovations, upgraded classroom furniture and provided food‑service training for kitchen staff. Ubatuba continued its environmental‑education programme, delivering four in‑person workshops for 123 teachers with a mobile teaching laboratory. Juramento held a professional‑development day covering school conduct, first‑aid and mental‑health topics.

Jaraguá do Sul and Uberlândia, which had already welcomed more than 17,000 and 69,000 students respectively, paired the return to classes with planning sessions and continued pedagogical projects. Across all participating cities, the initiatives aim to improve learning environments, increase enrollment opportunities and enhance the quality of public education for thousands of students.
