Brazilian audiovisual industry developments
Overview
The Brazilian audiovisual sector in São Paulo is seeing developments in both industry recognition and business support initiatives.
The 13th edition of Expocine, scheduled for late September 2026, has announced the recipients of the Troféu Expocine. This year introduces a Student category, with FAAP receiving the inaugural award for its 50-year history in film education. Other honorees include RT Features for production, noted for co-producing titles such as ‘Call Me by Your Name’ and ‘Ainda Estou Aqui’; Sato Company for its 41 years in distribution, particularly regarding Asian cinema; and Grupo Estação for its 40 years of exhibition in Rio de Janeiro.
New programs are also being implemented to strengthen the creative economy. In Mogi das Cruzes, a workshop titled ‘Film Commission na Prática’ was organized to teach municipalities how to attract productions to boost tourism. In São Paulo city, the fifth edition of the Amplifica Cine program, a partnership between ADE SAMPA and Spcine, provides R$ 52,000 in funding and technical support to 25 enterprises specializing in film, digital content, podcasts, and animation.
Additionally, the Secretariat of Culture, Economy, and Creative Industry, in partnership with ANCINE, has opened applications for a project selection program for independent production companies. Funded by the Audiovisual Sectoral Fund (FSA), the initiative will select 13 projects. The National Production category will award R$ 4 million to seven feature-length projects, while the International Partnerships category will provide R$ 2 million each to six projects focused on international co-productions.
