Bulgarian agricultural financial aid initiatives

The Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture has announced several large-scale financial aid packages to support the domestic agricultural sector following farmer protests and market instability.

Initially, Minister Plamen Abrovski detailed a plan involving hundreds of millions of euros in national and European funds. This package includes approximately 45 million euros for fruits, vegetables, and livestock, alongside 85 million euros for producers facing income drops of at least 30%. Further allocations include 170 million euros for fuel and fertilizer compensation, 35 million euros for crisis management, and 300 million euros for direct subsidies.

Subsequent updates from Deputy Minister Yanislav Yanchev highlighted specific support for the viticulture sector, totaling 35 million euros. While noting a strong harvest, the government is implementing liquidity interventions to help growers cover production costs. New climate-related assistance measures will also expand compensation to farms experiencing losses exceeding 30% due to adverse weather. To protect domestic producers, authorities are also increasing inspections to curb unfair practices regarding grape imports.
