Overview

Capcom has initiated several promotional activities for its ‘Mega Man’ franchise. In mid-August 2026, the company announced a collaboration with Hololive Production’s ‘Gamers’ VTuber group, featuring merchandise available at Capcom Stores and amusement facilities.

Following this, Capcom showcased gameplay for the upcoming title ‘Mega Man: Dual Override’ during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The game, the twelfth mainline entry in the series, is slated for a 2027 release. While previously noted for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, recent updates clarify a broader launch window in the second quarter of 2027 across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

The title features Mega Man and Proto Man, the latter of whom was highlighted in a recent Nintendo Direct trailer. Proto Man’s combat style emphasizes close-range melee attacks and shield usage, requiring players to manage a heat gauge to avoid overheating. Producer Hiroyuki Minamitani stated that Proto Man’s inclusion celebrates the series’ 40th anniversary.

Gameplay mechanics include the ‘Override’ system, a ‘high-risk, high-reward’ mechanic, and a ‘Custom Chip’ system for ability personalization. While leaks have suggested a roster of Robot Masters including Twinkle Girl, Jet Man, and others, Capcom has also announced official Amiibo figures for Mega Man and Proto Man to launch alongside the game. A live gameplay session and playable demo are scheduled for the Tokyo Game Show on September 21.
