Cemig energy efficiency and innovation initiatives

Overview

Cemig has introduced several initiatives aimed at driving innovation and energy efficiency within the Brazilian electrical sector.

The company launched the fifth cycle of the Inova Cemig.Lab program, which seeks startups to solve 13 strategic challenges, such as predicting electric vehicle charging profiles and automating energy restoration calculations. Selected projects may receive up to R$ 1.6 million for real-world testing.

Simultaneously, Cemig opened a R$ 150 million public call for 2026 energy efficiency projects. This fund supports modernization through efficient equipment and sustainable generation, including solar photovoltaics and battery energy storage systems to assist the energy transition in Minas Gerais. The funding is distributed across seven categories, including industrial, residential, commercial, and public sectors, with individual project requests ranging from R$ 300,000 to R$ 9 million.

Specific allocations for the 2026 cycle include R$ 40 million for Industrial, R$ 35 million for Residential/Condominiums, R$ 25 million for Commerce and Services, R$ 15 million for Public Power, R$ 15 million for Public Services, R$ 10 million for Rural, and R$ 10 million for Public Lighting. For residential condominiums, the funding structure requires a portion of the resources to be returned to the utility.

Expanding its focus on sustainable generation, Cemig and Sistema Faemg Senar launched the ‘Cemig Agro Solar 24h’ program in Minas Gerais. This initiative promotes solar energy adoption in the agricultural sector by providing systems equipped with battery storage, allowing energy generated during the day to be used during peak periods or supply interruptions. Through Cemig’s Energy Efficiency Program (PEE), selected rural producers can receive financial incentives covering up to 60% of equipment acquisition costs. While the program prioritizes small-scale milk producers generating less than 1,000 liters per day, it is not limited to that group.
